This was the first preservative that I started using because I like the ingredients, however at the recommended levels, it doesn't work. I did my research and found that it is safe up to extremely high doses (it's about the same level as water, from the studies I've read), so I now use it at 1%. At this level it lasts a few months, so I now combine it with Optiphen Plus if I want it to last longer. If you want to use it as the sole preservative, then I would probably put 2%. Also, Tinosan does not work with cationic ingredients or with proteins, so it limits the possible ingredients. If not protected from light, your lotions will turn a beige colour.
