Scenting Soaps

Cold Process Soapmaking

Cold Process Soaps are traditionally scented with Pure Essential Oils and they can be used and blended to create wonderful scents! We recommend using anywhere from 15ml to 30ml of Essential Oils for a 4lb. Batch of soap, adding them once the soap has reached trace. The amount of Essential Oils to use is only a loose guideline, as some people love a lot of scent whereas some only love a little. As well, some Essential Oils such as those derived from Citrus’ will tend to loose their scent faster than others. We have also found out, during our many years of soapmaking, that the Essential oils of Clove and Bay will cause the soap to come to trace very quick and can seize the soap, so we recommend that you add these two essential oils early, before your soap has come to trace.

Many people, such as us, have also used Bodycare Fragrance Oils for scenting Cold Process soaps. This gives you a wider range of scents to choose from, including many different fruit scents, as well as fragrances like Coffee, Coconut, Green Tea and Rain just to name a few. The only draw back that can occur from using Bodycare Fragrance Oils is that some can cause the soap to come to trace too quick and cause the soap to seize. We recommend adding your Fragrance Oils early, before trace, to allow you enough time to get your soap into the mold if this should occur. We recommend using anywhere from 15ml to 30ml of Bodycare Fragrances per 4lb. Batch of soap.
