Utensils:
- Heatproof measuring cup
- Small WhiskΒ
- Spatula
- Digital scale (accurate to 0.1g)
- Double boiler or water bath
- electric hand mixer (for whipping)
- thermometer
- Sanitized jars or containers with lids
- Gloves, mask, and safety glasses (recommended for handling surfactant powders)
Directions:
- Step 1: Prepare your workstation. Clean and sanitize all bowls, spatulas, and jars. Wear gloves and a mask if handling SLSa or SCI (they are fine powders). Combine Phase A. In a heatproof beaker or bowl, add: Distilled water, glycerin, dipropylene glycol LO, SCI, Bioterge/SLSa, stearic acid, Sea salt, and Polysorbate 80.Β Gently stir to evenly wet the powders with the liquids before heating. (This reduces flying dust and clumping.)
- Step 2: Melt Phase A. Place the bowl in a double boiler (or water bath) over medium heat. Stir occasionally until Stearic acid is fully melted and the SCI and SLSa are mostly dissolved into a smooth, thick paste.
- Step 3: Cool slightly. Remove from heat and allow Phase A to cool to ~40β45Β°C. This is important to avoid melting the sugar and to protect your preservative.
- Step 4: Add Phase B (oils & preservative). Stir in the shea butter, coconut oil, jojoba oil, fragrance, coulorant, and preservative until fully combined and smooth.
- Step 5: Fold in the sugar. Add the sugar. The texture should be thick, scoopable, and grainy but not runny.
- Step 6: Whip for a Fluffy Texture. Using a hand mixer, whip the scrub for 1β2 minutes until itβs light and airy. Stop once it has a fluffy, frosting-like texture.
- Step 7: Jar and set. Spoon into clean, dry jars. Allow to cool and thicken fully before capping tightly. Label with product name, scent, and usage instructions.
Tips for Success
- If the mixture is too thick while folding in sugar: Warm slightly to soften.
- If itβs too soft after cooling: Add more sugar (up to 60%) for a firmer scrub.
- Store in a cool, dry place. Use within 6β9 months.
How to Use:
- Scoop a small amount with dry fingers or a spoon.
- Massage gently onto damp skin in circular motions.
- Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
- For external use only. Avoid face, broken skin, or sensitive areas.
Safety:
- Keep water out of the jar to prevent contamination.
- Surfaces may become slippery β rinse shower or tub after use.
- Discontinue use if irritation occurs.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Storage & Shelf Life:
-
Store in a cool, dry place with the lid tightly closed.
Best used within 6β9 months. - The product may thicken over time; stir gently if needed.
