Geogard Ultra Preservative
PRSRV-GEGRD-ULT-57G
Geogard™ Ultra Preservative is a versatile broad-spectrum preservation system featuring a synergistic blend of Gluconolactone and Sodium Benzoate. This combination provides effective protection against bacteria, yeast and mould while the gradual release of Gluconic Acid from Gluconolactone helps enhance the overall preservation system, making Geogard Ultra an effective choice for a wide variety of cosmetic and personal care formulations.
Geogard Ultra is highly versatile and compatible with a broad range of formulation ingredients and most cationic, nonionic and anionic systems. Its water solubility and ability to be incorporated at both room and elevated temperatures provide formulators with flexibility when developing creams, lotions, cleansers, shampoos, conditioners and other water-based and emulsion-based products. In addition to its preservative function, the Gluconolactone component can contribute moisturizing benefits to the finished formulation.
With its broad-spectrum performance and COSMOS-approved and ECOCERT-compliant status, Geogard Ultra is particularly well suited to formulators looking for an effective preservation system for products developed to recognized natural and organic cosmetic standards. It is also Non-GMO and contains no parabens or formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, making it a versatile preservation option for a wide variety of modern cosmetic and personal care formulations.
Recommended Usage Rate: 0.75–2.0%
Geogard™ Ultra is a broad-spectrum preservative suitable for a wide variety of water-based cosmetic and personal care formulations, including creams, lotions, cleansers, shampoos, conditioners and other aqueous products.
For best preservative performance, formulate the finished product within a pH range of 3.0–6.0. Geogard Ultra becomes more effective as the pH is lowered within this range, so always check and adjust the final pH of your formulation after all ingredients have been incorporated.
Geogard Ultra is supplied as a powder and should be fully dissolved or well dispersed during formulation. It is soluble in water up to approximately 4% at room temperature and may also be dispersed in glycols or incorporated into the water phase. Gentle heating can help speed dissolution when necessary.
Geogard Ultra can be added at room temperature or at elevated temperatures, making it suitable for both cold-process and heated formulations. When working with an emulsion, it may be incorporated into the water phase before emulsification or added later in the process once properly dissolved.
As with all preservatives, the required usage level will depend on the formulation, manufacturing conditions, packaging and expected use of the finished product. Good Manufacturing Practices should always be followed, and preservative efficacy/challenge testing is recommended for products intended for commercial sale.
