Beeswax Pastilles can be melted directly into the oil phase of cosmetic and personal care formulations. Add the pastilles to your oils, butters, or other oil-soluble ingredients and heat gently until fully melted. Stir well to combine, then continue with your formulation as required.
Beeswax is commonly used to add firmness, structure, body, and durability to formulations. The amount used will depend on the desired texture, packaging, climate, and the other oils, butters, and waxes in the formula.
Typical starting usage rates:
- Lip Balms: 15–30%
- Salves & Balms: 15–25%
- Firm Balms & Sticks: 20–30%
- Body Balms: 5–15%
- Lotions & Creams: 1–5%
- Cold Process Soap: 1–3% of total oil weight

Beeswax has a relatively high melting point, so soap formulas containing beeswax are often prepared at warmer temperatures (130–140°F) to help keep the wax melted and evenly incorporated. Beeswax can also cause soap batter to thicken more quickly, particularly as the mixture cools. Use an immersion blender sparingly and plan for a shorter working time when incorporating colours, fragrances, or detailed designs. Small test batches are recommended when adding beeswax to a new formula.
