Cocoa Butter Deodorized
BTR-COCOA-DEO-114G
Deodorized Cocoa Butter is a highly stable, creamy vegetable butter pressed from cocoa beans and gently refined to reduce most of the natural chocolate aroma and colour. This deodorizing process results in a lightly scented butter that blends easily into a wide range of personal care and cosmetic formulations without strongly impacting the finished product’s fragrance profile. Firm at room temperature and melting close to body temperature, it adds structure, glide, and a smooth, cushiony skin feel to balms, lotions, body butters, salves, and soap.
Rich in natural fatty acids, including stearic, palmitic, and oleic acids, cocoa butter helps support the skin’s moisture barrier and reduces trans epidermal water loss, leaving skin feeling soft and conditioned. Its oxidative stability can also contribute to longer shelf life in anhydrous products. Use Deodorized Cocoa Butter when you want the functional benefits of cocoa butter with a lighter scent that won’t overpower added fragrances or essential oils.
Deodorized Cocoa Butter can be used anywhere you want the rich, protective benefits of cocoa butter without adding a heavy chocolate scent to your finished product. Its firm texture helps add body and structure to anhydrous formulations while melting smoothly on contact with the skin for excellent glide and conditioning. It can be melted and blended directly into the oil phase of your formulation and combined with other butters, carrier oils, and waxes as desired.
To incorporate, gently heat in a water bath until fully melted, then mix with the rest of your oils or butters. Avoid overheating and prolonged high temperatures to preserve quality. Allow products to cool slowly for a smooth, even texture. In cold process soap, add to your melted oils before combining with lye.
Suggested usage levels vary depending on the product type and desired firmness.
Use at 3–10% in lotions and creams to boost richness and skin protection, 5–15% in body butters and salves for added structure and conditioning, and 10–30% in balms, sticks, and solid products where more hardness is needed.
In cold or hot process soap, cocoa butter is commonly used at 5–15% of total oils to contribute hardness and a creamy, stable lather.
Tip: Higher percentages will create a firmer, more solid product, while lower percentages provide light conditioning with a softer texture. Adjust other oils and waxes accordingly to achieve your desired consistency.
