How to Use & Storage Guidelines
Our unscented lotion and cream bases are finished, preserved products that are ready to use as-is or can be scented with your choice of fragrance oil or essential oil.
For lotions and creams, we recommend starting with approximately 0.5–1% fragrance or essential oil. Add your chosen scent gradually and mix thoroughly until evenly incorporated. Always check the applicable IFRA guidelines for the specific fragrance or essential oil being used and the intended application, and never exceed the maximum IFRA usage rate.
When adding scent or repackaging, follow good manufacturing practices to help maintain product quality and minimize the risk of contamination. Work in a clean, sanitary area and use clean, sanitized and completely dry utensils, mixing equipment and containers. Avoid touching the product directly with your hands, and never return unused or scented product to the original container.
When purchasing bulk quantities, we recommend repackaging the product into clean, sanitized, completely dry bottles or jars soon after receiving it, particularly if the product will be used gradually over an extended period. This reduces the need to repeatedly open and handle the bulk container and helps minimize the amount of empty headspace that develops as product is used. Partially filled containers can be more susceptible to condensation, particularly when exposed to temperature changes, which may increase the potential for surface mould or other microbial contamination.
If you choose to keep the product in its original bulk container, remove only the amount needed using clean, dry utensils and promptly reseal the container after each use. Store tightly closed in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight, excessive heat and temperature fluctuations. Avoid introducing water, wet utensils or other ingredients into the original container, as contamination or changes to the formulation may compromise the preservation system and contribute to microbial or mould growth.
