Lauryl Glucoside is a mild, non-ionic surfactant from the alkyl polyglucoside (APG) family, produced by reacting plant-derived glucose with lauryl alcohol sourced from natural fatty acids. As a biodegradable surfactant made from renewable raw materials, it is widely used in sulfate-free and naturally focused formulations including shampoos, facial cleansers, body washes, and sensitive-skin products.

Compared with shorter-chain APGs, Lauryl Glucoside offers stronger cleansing performance and contributes to a rich, dense foam profile, while still maintaining a high level of skin and ocular mildness. It is well suited for building viscosity and enhancing the stability of surfactant systems, and it blends easily with anionic, non-ionic, and amphoteric surfactants. Its broad pH tolerance and formulation flexibility make it a dependable primary or secondary surfactant in a range of personal care applications where gentle but effective cleansing is required.

Lauryl Glucoside at 50–52% active matter is typically a thick, pourable liquid, though it can sometimes develop a slightly hazy look or tiny bead-like crystals, especially in cooler temperatures. This is a normal characteristic of the material and does not affect its performance. Gentle warming and stirring will help the beads dissolve and return the surfactant to a smooth, uniform consistency.

Image shown is typical of when product is warmed and all solids are liquified.

Lauryl Glucoside is commonly used in gentle, sulfate-free formulations for products such as shampoos, facial cleansers, body washes, and hand soaps where mild but effective cleansing is desired. Usage levels typically range from 3–30%, depending on the required foaming, detergency, and viscosity contribution.

Lauryl Glucoside is compatible with a wide range of anionic, non-ionic, and amphoteric surfactants and can assist with viscosity building, especially when used alongside salt-based thickeners or natural gums.

It is generally added to the water phase of a formulation and should be incorporated at slightly warmed temperature to ensure proper blending and maintain product stability.
