Geogard™ ECT Preservative is a versatile broad-spectrum preservation system combining Benzyl Alcohol, Salicylic Acid, Glycerin and Sorbic Acid. Designed for use in a wide variety of cosmetic and personal care formulations, it provides effective protection against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, yeast and mould while offering formulators flexibility across a broad range of product types.

With its low odour and low colour profile, Geogard ECT is an excellent choice for formulations where the finished product’s fragrance and appearance are important, including fragrance-free and fragrance-sensitive products. Its liquid format makes it easy to incorporate into creams, lotions, cleansers, shampoos, conditioners and many other personal care formulations. Effective across a broad pH range, Geogard ECT provides formulators with a versatile preservation option for both rinse-off and leave-on products.

Geogard ECT is also COSMOS approved and ECOCERT compliant, making it particularly useful for formulators developing products to recognized natural and organic cosmetic standards. Its combination of broad-spectrum performance, formulation versatility and low sensory impact makes it a practical preservative choice for a diverse range of modern cosmetic and personal care products.

Recommended Usage Rate: 0.6–1.0%

Geogard™ ECT is a broad-spectrum preservative suitable for a wide variety of cosmetic and personal care formulations, including creams, lotions, cleansers, shampoos, conditioners, body washes, toners and other aqueous and emulsion-based products.

Geogard ECT is supplied as a liquid and can be easily incorporated into most formulations. For emulsified products, add Geogard ECT post-emulsification during the cool-down phase at temperatures below 45°C, mixing thoroughly to ensure even distribution throughout the formulation.

Geogard ECT is effective over a broad pH range of 3.0–8.0. Always check the pH of the finished formulation after all ingredients have been incorporated to ensure it falls within the recommended range for effective preservation.

When working with very high-water formulations such as toners or watery serums, additional formulation consideration may be required to ensure Geogard ECT is completely and evenly incorporated.

As with all preservatives, the appropriate usage level will depend on the complete formulation, manufacturing conditions, packaging and intended use of the finished product. Good Manufacturing Practices should always be followed, and preservative efficacy/challenge testing is recommended for newly developed or significantly altered formulations intended for commercial sale.
