This lip gloss base incorporates a variety of specialty oils and butters to create wonderful glistening lip glosses.
Our ready-to-use Solid Lip Gloss Base makes it easy to create your own customized lip gloss without having to formulate from scratch. Formulated with a higher concentration of castor oil, this premade base provides a smooth, conditioning application with a beautiful glossy shine. Simply remelt, customize with your favourite lip-safe flavours, colours or micas, and pour into lip balm tubes, pots or other suitable containers.
Instructions
- Measure Your Base: Weigh the desired amount of Solid Lip Gloss Base into a clean, dry, heat-safe container.
- Remelt the Base: Gently heat using a double boiler or microwave until completely liquefied. A temperature of approximately 70–75°C (158–167°F) is generally sufficient. If using a microwave, heat in short 15–20 second intervals, stirring between each interval to ensure even heating. Avoid overheating or prolonged exposure to high temperatures.
- Customize Your Base: Once melted, remove from heat and allow to cool slightly before adding your desired lip-safe flavour oils, colourants or micas. For best results, add flavour oils at approximately 60–65°C (140–149°F), while the base is still fully liquid. Stir thoroughly to ensure all additives are evenly dispersed.
- Pour into Containers: While the base is still warm and pourable, carefully transfer into clean, dry lip balm tubes, pots or other suitable containers. If the base begins to thicken before pouring is complete, gently reheat until fluid again.
- Cool and Set: Allow the filled containers to cool undisturbed at room temperature until completely solidified. Once fully cooled and set, cap the containers and your customized solid lip gloss is ready to use!

- Avoid Overheating: Gentle heating helps maintain the quality and consistency of the premade base.
- Recommended Flavour Usage: Customize your solid lip gloss with one of our lip-safe Flavour Oils, typically used at 0.5–2%. Always refer to the individual flavour's IFRA Certificate for the maximum permitted usage level for lip products (Category 1).
- Use Lip-Safe Additives: Only use flavour oils, colourants and micas specifically suitable for lip products.
- Enhance the Shine: The higher castor oil content naturally provides a glossy finish, while lip-safe micas can be added to create a beautiful shimmer or pearlescent effect.
- Maintain the Right Consistency: Adding excessive amounts of liquid oils or flavours can soften the finished gloss and affect its firmness and performance.
- Test Small Batches: When experimenting with new flavours or colours, we recommend preparing a small test batch first to ensure the finished product has your desired appearance, consistency and shine.
