Sodium Laureth Surfactant Liquid is a versatile and popular anionic surfactant valued for its excellent cleansing performance, rich lather, and pleasantly mild skin feel. Easy to work with in its liquid form, it is an excellent choice for shampoos, body washes, shower gels, liquid hand cleansers, bubble baths, facial cleansers, and a wide variety of other rinse-off personal care products.

One of the key benefits of Sodium Laureth Surfactant is its ability to provide effective cleansing while maintaining a milder cleansing profile. It produces abundant, creamy foam and effectively removes oils, dirt, and everyday buildup from the skin and hair, making it a reliable choice for both hair care and body care formulations.

Despite the similarity in their names, Sodium Laureth Surfactant (SLES) should not be confused with Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS). They are different ingredients with different properties. Sodium Laureth Surfactant is ethoxylated, giving it a generally milder cleansing profile than SLS while still providing the excellent foam and cleansing performance formulators are looking for.

With its combination of mildness, effective cleansing, impressive lather, and formulation versatility, Sodium Laureth Surfactant Liquid is an excellent all-around surfactant for creating high-quality everyday cleansing products.

Sodium Laureth Surfactant Liquid is easy to incorporate into a wide variety of water-based cleansing formulations. It can be used as a primary surfactant or as part of a blended surfactant system in shampoos, body washes, shower gels, hand cleansers, bubble baths, facial cleansers, and other rinse-off personal care products.

Add Sodium Laureth Surfactant Liquid to the water or surfactant phase of your formulation and mix gently until completely uniform. Slow, gentle mixing is recommended to minimize foaming and make the product easier to process. It can generally be incorporated at room temperature or with gentle heating, depending on the requirements of the overall formulation.

Suggested Usage Rates

The ideal amount will depend on the type of product, desired cleansing and lather, and the other ingredients in the formulation. The following are useful starting ranges:

  • Shampoo: 10–30%
  • Body Wash & Shower Gel: 10–25%
  • Liquid Hand Cleanser: 10–25%
  • Facial Cleanser: 5–15%
  • Bubble Bath: 15–30%
  • Foaming Cleanser: 5–15%
  • General Rinse-Off Cleansers: 5–30%

General Suggested Usage: 5–30%

Formulation Tips

For best results, avoid vigorous mixing as Sodium Laureth Surfactant can generate considerable foam during production. Once the formulation is complete, the pH and viscosity can be adjusted as required for the finished product.

Suggested usage rates refer to the Sodium Laureth Surfactant Liquid as supplied, rather than the percentage of active surfactant matter. These ranges are intended as formulation starting points and may be adjusted depending on the desired cleansing, foam, viscosity, and overall feel of the finished product.

As with all cosmetic raw materials, we recommend testing the finished formulation for stability, compatibility, pH, viscosity, and performance before production.
